Powderfinger Announce 18 Reunion Shows Across Six Australian Cities in 2027

Powderfinger will play 18 concerts across six Australian cities in September and October 2027, their first shows since the Brisbane band broke up in 2010. The dates were revealed days after the members confirmed the reunion, following a run of cryptic clues posted online.

Every show will be held outdoors in a central city location under a large tent that the band calls a “stadium-sized big top”, with the events billed as part festival, part spectacle. The run opens at Brisbane Showgrounds on 3, 4, 10 and 11 September, then moves to Cazalys Stadium in Cairns on 17 and 18 September and Wellington Square in Perth on 24 and 25 September. Sydney’s The Domain hosts four nights on 1, 2, 8 and 9 October, followed by Ellis Park in Adelaide on 15 and 16 October and Melbourne Park Oval on 22, 23, 29 and 30 October.

Tickets will be released in three stages. An artist and Telstra pre-sale opens on Wednesday 14 October, a Live Nation pre-sale follows on Friday 16 October and general sales begin on Monday 19 October, with start times staggered by city. Pre-sale access is limited to mailing list subscribers, Telstra customers and Live Nation members. No support acts have been named yet, but the band has committed to booking only Australian artists, with different acts on different nights, and an announcement is likely in November to coincide with Ausmusic Month. Powderfinger are also working with Mission Australia to raise money and awareness, with details to come.

Formed in Brisbane in 1989 and fronted by Bernard Fanning, Powderfinger released five ARIA number one albums and won 18 ARIA Awards before splitting. The band appeared in triple j’s Hottest 100 22 times and won it twice, and three of their songs made last year’s Hottest 100 of Australian Songs.

In a statement, the band said: “We are absolutely ecstatic to be coming together to play again.” They said that despite years of suggestions to tour, the timing had never suited all five of them until now. The members said fans often tell them their music is tied to treasured memories, and they want the shows to reach people who have never seen them live, including their own children, who were too young to see the band the first time around.
